The safe parking model is inexpensive compared to other homelessness interventions, but we still have costs to cover. We are entirely volunteer run and receive no taxpayer or government funding or grants. Without the generous support of individual donors like you, Indiana's only safe parking program wouldn't exist.

Volunteering: Become a Safe Park Indy Lot Steward!
Every night, Safe Park Indy gives Hoosiers living in their vehicles due to homelessness a safe, legal place to sleep. But what makes our lots feel truly safe isn’t just the safety, bathrooms, or supply cabinets.
It’s knowing that someone cares.
We’re looking for a small team of volunteer Lot Stewards — people who can “adopt” one of our parking lots by stopping by once each week for about 15–20 minutes.
As a Lot Steward, you’ll:

Check our supply cabinet and let us know what’s running low

Restock the supply cabinet as needed from our central supply stock

Make sure the portable restroom is in good condition (no cleaning required; you'll just let us know if it needs service, and if so, we'll arrange for that service)

Pick up any litter around the lot (very minimal)

Say hello to clients who may be in the lot, ask if they need anything, and report that back to us
Your presence lets our clients know that someone is thinking about them and helps us keep each lot clean, welcoming, and well supplied. Sometimes the smallest acts -- checking in, offering a smile, making sure there’s toilet paper in the restroom — can remind someone that they haven’t been forgotten.
Most visits take less than 20 minutes, and they can be done anytime after 6:00 p.m. on the evenings that work for your schedule.

Attention Families and Groups!
This is a wonderful opportunity for families, neighborhood groups, faith communities, coworkers, scout troops, civic organizations, and other groups to serve together. Children are welcome to participate alongside an adult, making this a meaningful way to teach compassion, empathy, and community service.
Groups are also invited to make their volunteer evening their own. In addition to completing the regular Lot Steward responsibilities, you might choose to create care packages or hygiene kits, prepare amenity bags, serve a meal, organize a seasonal donation drive, or choose to host a themed evening like a “Pancake Night,” “Summer Cool-Down,” “Winter Warm-Up” or "Perks for Pets" to offer clients an extra moment of comfort and hospitality.
If your group would like to provide something beyond the standard Lot Steward visit, we simply ask that you coordinate with Safe Park Indy in advance. This helps us ensure that the activity is appropriate for our clients, avoid duplicating efforts with other volunteers, and let clients know ahead of time when a special meal, donation, or service will be available. Our goal is to create experiences that are thoughtful, well-coordinated, and centered on the dignity and needs of the people we serve.
